As part of my current studies in Switzerland as an Interactive Media Designer, I had the incredible opportunity to come to Bournemouth and work at ‘This is Crowd’ for four weeks. Personally, I knew it was going to be a tremendous experience, and moreover, an efficient way to put into practice my knowledge and my skills. I was excited to learn new things and experience the English language, which is the very first time for me! This was definitely the case because I worked with the lovely team at Crowd who took time to explain things to me, showed examples and encouraged me through the various projects I have done.

In my first week, I discovered what the social media side of the agency does and this was with the help of Lois, Laura and Megan. Now, I am glad to have understood its’ importance, particularly between the client and agency.I assisted with various social media tasks and I also had the opportunity to witness the shooting of a video which was absolutely interesting and instructive to see.

During my second week, I did my best to improve some photographs with Tom and Megan.I was happy to work on several official documents by creating content and layouts, designing pictogramms and diagrams.

Then, the third week, I received an exciting task which was to conceive and design a logotype for a brand new organization. I tried to explore different methods and approaches in order to bring something simple, fresh and obviously new while using and applying the graphical rules I have learnt before. I was surprised by the short period I had to create it, but I think it represents the challenge and the reality of the job. It highlighted for me the difficulty to create something strong and dynamic at the same time and make good graphical choices from the beginning.

Finally, for my last week and with Matt’s help, I was shown how to add content to websites, researching information and updating them by using the famous CMS platform, Wordpress. This was really useful for me to practise this part of job because nowadays, it represents a major tool in web design and development.

Undoubtedly, if I can, I would gladly come again in the future because it was for me, by far the most interesting and the most concrete way to learn and improve my knowledge. It has been a wonderful, personal and professional involvement I will always keep in my mind as one of the best work experiences I have ever made.

Lastly, I would like to thank all those unforgettable and enthusiastic colleagues who were with me, who took time for me and who welcomed me as part of the team. Thank you for everything Crowd!
