1st Byte take illustration to the next level.
When 1st Byte decided they’d like an interactive and original solution to show off their office, we knew just the man for the job. Rod Hunt is an illustration legend whose quirky graphic style graces the pages of magazines like FHM and Where’s Stig for Top Gear!
We’d worked with Rod Hunt on a previous job and knew his work would be just the ticket. He is an illustration guru after all. His work has been recognized around the world and he sits on the boards of various noble illustration bodies. The man has it nailed.
Our first challenge was to nail him down ourselves. He’s a busy man. But we were determined to have him. Just managing to talk to him was enough of a problem. We also had the added challenge of working out how to animate his drawings without using Flash to bring his drawings to life.
Celebrations, head-scratching and HTML5
The celebrations when Rod agreed to illustrate the concept were followed by a period of head scratching as we worked out how we could pull this one off. All we had to do was prove to the client that this would work!
Proof of concept is always a tricky number when you’re attempting something new like this. Our track record of working with exceptionally talented people helped convince 1st Byte that we were on the right lines and they signed off the project.
‘We love working with Crowd. They always surprise with their creativity and the lengths their prepared to go to for the best work. Our virtual tour is a real talking point among our clients.’
Lawrence Dalton | Managing Director at 1st Byte
HTML5 gave us the solution to solve the animation challenge. Combining Rod’s amazing illustrations with some pretty slick coding meant we were able to take a visitor on a virtual tour of our favorite client’s offices.
'It's great working with a client like 1st Byte who want to do something different to stand out from the crowd & put a more human face to their business. My work lends itself to getting across complex information in an engaging & entertaining way, the perfect fit for a project of this kind. Working with Crowd is always a pleasure.'
Rod Hunt | Illustrator
We worked on concepts with Rod and developed storyboards to explain the project to the client. Working with Rod we broke the project down into a series of phases.
The next stages are already on the drawing board and we are hoping we’ll soon be able to take our technology combined with Rod’s amazing artwork to another level (no pun intended). Watch this space, or their space.
