Sometimes it can be annoying when you want to get your point across via a Tweet but you’re limited to that 140-character limit!

Twitter originally put this in place due to the original process of SMS Tweeting, and it is still apparent on the platform to ensure that content is short and to the point – which is the beauty of Twitter.

So, how can we use this limit to our advantage and make the most out of our Tweets? We’ve put together 12 top tips for enhancing your twitter content and adding creativity.

  • Tweet A Lot! With the fast moving pace that Twitter runs on, be sure to Tweet 2/3 times a day AT LEAST! It has been proven that people who Tweet a lot tend to gain more followers than those that Tweet less frequently.
  • Hashtags: Using hashtags allows you to categorize your Tweets, and make them more discoverable to people searching for information on the topic. This is particularly important when looking at trending topics.
  • Trending Topics: Everyday there are a number of trending topics and hashtags, which are great for joining in a conversation and getting your content in front of lots of people (a great example is Oreo’s Tweet during the Super bowl Blackout!). It is crucial that this is done tastefully, ensuring a positive and correct message is distributed – so do your research on the trending topic prior to tweeting! • The power of the mention: Twitter is all about the conversation, and mentioning people in Tweets is the perfect way to spark conversation with relevant accounts. You can do this by simply inserting the relevant Twitter handle at the beginning of any tweet!
  • Retweeting: Did you know that you can now add your own copy to a retweet? This is a great way to add your own opinion and reply to customers publicly!
  • Don’t directly try to make sales on Twitter: sales Tweets tend to come across as ‘noise’ and are not appealing to Twitter users. Just have character, be social and entertain!
  • Add Links: Use your tweets to give your opinion on an interesting article within your industry – why not ask your audience for their opinion too?
  • Competitions! Twitter is a great platform to host competitions, and what better opportunity to create a competition hashtag?!
  • Make your images count: Adding text to images can make them a lot more visually engaging, especially when linking to an article.
  • Hosting an Event? Twitter is the perfect place to run a live feed in the form of tweets! Make sure you’ve got an event hashtag and you’re good to go!
  • Search, Search, Search: Search for users already talking about your product, industry etc… and join in the conversation – offer your expertise!
  • Competitor Analysis: Take a look around at what others in the industry are doing and what is working for them.
